Dame Anna Neagle was a British actress, singer, and dancer. Her roles include the films Nell Gwyn, Victoria the Great, Sixty Glorious Years, Nurse Edith Cavell, Sunny, and The Lady with a Lamp.
She was the daughter of Florence (Neagle) and Herbert Robertson, a Merchant Navy captain. Her father was Scottish and her mother was born in Ireland. Her brother was bass-baritone and actor Stuart Robertson. She was married to film producer and director Herbert Wilcox, until his death. He produced and directed most of her films.
Anna is said to be a great-aunt of actor Nicholas Hoult. It is not clear through which line the two are related, or if the relation is biological.
