Easy Grilled Pineapple - Celebrating Sweets
This juicy Grilled Pineapple makes a light and refreshing summer side dish or dessert.
I present you with the only way you will want to eat pineapple from now until forever: juicy, caramelized, and grilled to perfection.
We’re in that phase of summer where fruit makes up 80% of my diet, and I’m not the least bit upset about it. I’ve been adding fruit to everything from salsa to cocktails to water to dessert. Lately we have been grilling pineapple and I’m always amazed at how delicious it turns out. Fire up your grill. You’re going to love this!
Ingredients
- Oil or nonstick spray (for greasing your grill)
- Fresh pineapple: Remove the outer skin from a fresh pineapple and cut it into rings or spears. I remove the core as well. For a shortcut, you can look for already prepped pineapple in the refrigerated section of the produce department. I do not recommend canned or frozen pineapple for this recipe; fresh is best.
- Brown sugar (optional): If you’re serving this grilled pineapple as dessert, I highly suggest adding a bit of brown sugar. This adds a touch of caramel-y sweetness that pairs wonderfully with the juicy pineapple.
Side dish or dessert
This Grilled Pineapple can be served as a side dish alongside grilled meat and veggies, or it can be served as dessert. Here are our favorite ways to serve it:
Savory: Brush teriyaki sauce or BBQ sauce onto the pineapple during the last minute or two of cook time. Serve alongside grilled chicken, fish, steak, or veggies, or add a slice of grilled pineapple to a burger.
Sweet: Serve the grilled pineapple with a scoop of vanilla or coconut ice cream and garnish with chopped macadamia nuts, caramel sauce, and/or toasted coconut. I am a huge fan of the contrast of warm and cold in a dessert, so I serve this grilled pineapple slightly warm, which makes the ice cream get a little melty.

Instructions
- Cut off the top, bottom, and outer skin of the pineapple (here's a step by step guide). Cut the pineapple into ¼-inch slices (or into spears). Core the pineapple, if desired.
Place the pineapple slices on a greased grill over medium heat, and cook for about 3-5 minutes per side. The pineapple should have grill marks on it and will have softened slightly.
If adding brown sugar: place the hot pineapple onto a large platter and immediately sprinkle both sides with brown sugar. The heat from the pineapple will melt the brown sugar within a couple of minutes. See serving suggestions in the notes.
