Zac Efron has never appeared on this show, but one of the lead actors – Cody Christian – does resemble Zac to some extent, which might be confusing fans. Zac does not usually do TV shows either; his career is dominated by feature films.

All American Isn’t a Good Fit for Zac

All American is a show that was produced by and originally aired on the CW. It is about a star football player, and received praise from critics ever since the pilot episode aired. The NY Times calls the show “a hybrid of The O.C. and Friday Night Lights.” The show itself has everything that makes a good teen drama; from high stakes and parties to romances and exploring father-son relationships. The show is set in Beverly Hills in Los Angeles. Some critics were not so keen on the show when it aired though. The NY Times said, “The new CW football drama All American can’t seem to capitalize on all this, though, and instead winds up feeling more like a commercial for a show than an actual show itself.” Ouch!

All American was more or less slept on when it aired on the CW. It is now on Netflix, and reached number one in terms of the highest streamed shows on the platform in 2020. This is a stark contrast to the fact that when it aired in 2018, it did not receive very high ratings. When the second season aired the next year, it averaged 1.1 million views and was at the 201st position for primetime shows in for the teen demographic that year. 

All American isn’t quite Zac’s kind of show – he doesn’t even do shows very often. He has lent his voice, either for voiceovers or narrations – to shows like Scooby-Doo and Human Discoveries, and he has an adventure-based reality show in the making called Killing Zac Efron. Other than these, he has only done small TV roles here in there, so we all know that movies are more of his jam. 

Zac Resembles Cody Christian of All American

The reason that people seem confused as to whether or not Zac Efron stars in All American is that one of his apparent lookalikes does! Cody Christian, who plays Asher Adams on All American, closely resembles Zac, and in some interviews, he looks almost exactly like him. 

Cody is an actor who began his career by playing small roles in True Blood, State of Mind, and Grey’s Anatomy. He gained mainstream fame after starring in Pretty Little Liars for five years, and in Teen Wolf for two years. Speaking about Asher, Cody has said, “He has to step up and prove to people that he’s worthy of being a leader, that he’s learned from his mistakes, and whether or not he gets accepted, that’s not on him… He’s trying to remember what it was about football that made him want to start in the beginning and trying to find himself again.”

Regardless of how alike Zac and Cody look, rest assured that Zac does not star in All American. The detailed list of cast and crew does not even display his name in a minor role. That being said, this confusion couldn’t possibly be a surprise for Zac, because he is very often mistaken for other celebrities that happen to look like him. 

For instance, there was one time when a couple of pictures of Jared Leto in his twenties surfaced on the internet, and fans couldn’t help but point out that he looked a lot like Zac Efron in them. Zac also closely resembles a younger Rob Lowe, and to such an extent that fans have even wonder if the two of them are somehow related. Similarly, some people claim that Zac resembles Billy from the Netflix show Stranger Things, who is played by Dacre Montgomery. Zac has also been compared to a handful of other actors including Dave Franco, Ian Somerhalder, John Stamos, and even  Glenn Ford of Hollywood’s Golden Era!
