IU and Suga's collab is on the way!
We could not have asked for better news! On 27th April, IU’s agency, EDAM Entertainment, announced that the singer will soon be making a comeback. Her last EP “Love Poem” was released in November 2019. IU will be releasing a digital single on May 6, 2020, along with a music video. The agency also revealed that for her upcoming single, “Palette” hitmaker will be collaborating with BTS’ rapper Suga, who has earlier worked with the likes of Epik High, Juice WRLD, Heize, Suran, Lee Sora, Halsey, and many other artists.
Commenting on the collaboration, the agency said,
“As musicians of the same age, the two singers were able to relate to one another and use that as a foundation for exchanging opinions. They created their own unique synergy, which is reflected in their song.”
The filming for the music video is already complete, with IU participating in every aspect of creation. The upcoming work is said to be different from her past musical styles. An exclusive report by EDaily has stated that Suga will not just be producing but will also do a feature on the single.
IU is a singer-songwriter and actress who began her singing career at the age of fifteen. She garnered attention and national stardom after the release of “Good Day”, a single that has been deemed as the top track from 100 Greatest K-Pop Songs of the 2010s by Billboard. IU is one of the most successful solo acts in South Korea, whose music finds its fans amongst both young and old. She is also a talented actress and recently starred as a lead in Hotel del Luna. The show went on to become the twelfth highest-rated Korean drama in cable television history.
While the announcement of the collaboration came as a surprise, this isn’t the only news. Suga recently took on YouTube to interact with fans while painting and later did an audio live on VLive to answer fans’ questions. After RM revealed that the group is already working on new music, Suga confirmed that the septet has indeed started working on the new album and said,
“Before we started, we decided who was in charge of what. Who would oversee everything, who would oversee the visuals, who would oversee the music—we split that up. We discussed it amongst ourselves and made the decision.”
