Patrick Schwarzenegger is an American actor, model, and entrepreneur. His roles include the films Stuck in Love, Grown Ups 2, Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse, Dear Eleanor, Go North, Midnight Sun, Daniel Isn’t Real, Echo Boomers, MOXiE!, and Warning (2021), and the series The Long Road Home, The Staircase, and The Terminal List.

His father is Austrian-born actor and politician Arnold Schwarzenegger, who was Governor of California, from November 17, 2003 to January 3, 2011. His mother is journalist Maria Shriver. His maternal grandfather, politician Sargent Shriver, had German, Irish, and small amounts of Scottish, English, Dutch, and French Huguenot, ancestry. His maternal grandmother was of Irish, and distant Scottish, descent. She was the sister of John F. Kennedy, who served as President of the United States, from January 20, 1961 to November 22, 1963.

Among his siblings is author Katherine Schwarzenegger. Katherine is married to actor Chris Pratt. Patrick is also a great-nephew of politicians Robert F. Kennedy and Ted Kennedy, and activist and humanitarian Jean Kennedy Smith, who was Ambassador to Ireland, from June 24, 1993 to September 17, 1998; all of whom were his grandmother’s siblings. Patrick is a first cousin, once removed, of environmental lawyer, author, and radio host Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. and journalist John F. Kennedy, Jr.; and a second cousin of politician Joe Kennedy III and designer and author Jack Schlossberg.

Patrick’s paternal grandfather was Gustav Schwarzenegger (the son of Karl Schwarzenegger, born Carl Mach, and of Cecelia/Cecilia Hinterleitner). Gustav was born in Weiz, Weiz District, Styria, Austria. Karl was born in Neuberg an der Mürz, the son of Wenzel/Václav Mach, who was born in Kočov, near Tachov, Pilsen, in the Czech lands; and of Kunigunde Schwarzenegger. Karl later took on his mother’s name Schwarzenegger. Cecelia was the daughter of Peter Hinterleitner and Regina Ehmann.

Patrick’s paternal grandmother was named Aurelia Jadrny (who was evidently the daughter of August Jadrny). Aurelia was born in Gloggnitz, Neunkirchen District, Lower Austria. August was the son of Franz Jadrny and Marie.

Patrick’s maternal grandfather was Sargent Shriver (Robert Sargent Shriver, the son of Robert Sargent Shriver and Hilda Shriver). Patrick’s grandfather Sargent was born in Maryland, and was the 21st United States Ambassador to France, the 1st Director of the Peace Corps, and the Democratic Party’s nominee for Vice President of the United States in 1972. Patrick’s great-grandfather Robert was the son of Henry Shriver and Sarah Sargent Van Lear Perry. Hilda was the daughter of Thomas Herbert Shriver and Elizabeth Rosalia/Rosalie Lawson.

Patrick’s Shriver line can be traced to Lorenz Schreiber, who was born, c. 1630, in Enkenbach-Alsenborn, Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany.

Patrick’s maternal grandmother was Eunice Kennedy Shriver (born Eunice Mary Kennedy, the daughter of Joseph Patrick “Joe” Kennedy and Rose Elizabeth Fitzgerald). Eunice was born in Massachusetts. Joseph and Rose were of Irish descent, and Patrick’s grandfather also had remote Scottish roots. His Kennedy line traces back to Scotland, and Patrick had Scottish-born ancestors in the 1600s. Patrick’s great-grandfather Joseph was a businessperson, investor, and politician, who was the son of P. J. Kennedy (Patrick Joseph Kennedy), a businessperson and politician, with roots in Dunganstown, County Wexford, and of Mary Augusta Hickey, whose roots were in Newmarket-on-Fergus, County Clare and Rosscarbery, County Cork. Patrick’s great-grandmother Rose was a philanthropist and socialite. Rose’s father, Patrick’s great-great-grandfather, John Francis “Honey Fitz” Fitzgerald, was a Democratic politician, who served as Mayor of Boston, from January 1, 1906 to January 6, 1908, and again, from February 7, 1910 to February 2, 1914; and as a Member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Massachusetts, from March 4, 1895 to March 3, 1901, and again, from March 4, 1919 to October 23, 1919. John’s roots were in Co. Limerick. Rose’s mother was Mary Josephine “Josie” Hannon, whose roots were in Lough Gur and Bruff, Limerick.
